celebrating over a decade in
Fort Mcmurray wood buffalo
In 2012, the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) introduced the City Centre McMurray Half Marathon to grow the running community within Fort McMurray. Building on the continued success of the annual Fort McMurray Half Marathon, thanks to the support of our local running community and partners, the community event has evolved and in 2018 became the Fort McMurray Marathon, adding a full 42.2km marathon race distance. In 2022, the event added a new charitable element with the Run for a Reason program. In 2023, we were delighted to welcome Inter Pipeline as the title partner to the event!
The Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon is brought to the region by the RRC and the RMWB.
Every fall runners and spectators come to MacDonald Island Park to participate in the day-long event that has something to offer all levels of runners and spectators, with an emphasis on health and wellness, personal achievement, and community connection. Participants and community members descend on MacDonald Island Park and enjoy music, food, community partner activations, entertainment, family fun and much more!
The Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon offers multiple race distances for all skill levels and ages to enjoy, including the full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1km), 10km, 5km, 3km and the ever-popular kid's fun run. Providing a variety of race lengths allows runners to graduate from one distance to the next, giving them the opportunity to challenge themselves and push their personal goals year after year.
This annual event wouldn’t be possible without the continued support of dedicated volunteers, participants and corporate partners. The Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon continues this legacy, working to support & grow the local running community.
