The Fort McMurray Marathon Organizing Committee, a partnership between the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) and Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), is pleased to announce the event will offer an elevated runners experience in 2018, thanks to the support of new and continued community partnerships.
2018 marks the launch of the newly formatted Fort McMurray Marathon, formerly a half marathon event, transitioning this year to a full 42.2KM race. Scheduled for September 16, the Marathon is Fort McMurray’s largest annual running event, drawing a crowd of athletes, spectators and community partners together to enjoy a day of festivities at MacDonald Island Park.
The Organizing Committee is excited to welcome ATB Financial on board, forming a new partnership for 2018 where the company is set to be the presenting partner for the 42.2K, 21.1K and 10K races. The generous support of ATB Financial will contribute directly to enhancing the marathon experience for participants, including new components such as the introduction of a pre-race meet-up and mixer and an expanded runner’s chute.
Fort McMurray Marathon Committee Chair, Kelsey Stefanizyn says partnerships such as this help bring the event to the next level. “We wouldn’t be able to continue to grow this event without the support of our phenomenal partners! The goal this year is to host a race that will excite our local run community like never before. The strong support this event receives year after year provides opportunities to continue to develop that experience and create lasting memories for our community.”
Inter Pipeline will return for a third year with continued support for the Annual Kids Fun Run, a free-run designed especially for kids under the age of 8. Harvard Broadcasting radio station MIX 103.7FM is also returning, for a sixth consecutive year as media partner for the event.
